1. What I’ve done before
I started doing music on an Amiga 1000 Computer when I was around 12. With the software I used you actually had to do classic notation to make beats. Remember music class in school? Those symbols with a belly and a flag that you can put somewhere on five horizontal lines? This is what I had to put on screen to place Bassdrums, Snares and Hihats. It was a horrible thing to edit!
If you think of oldschool video game music with some Kraftwerk samples you get a rough idea of what I did. The music was fitting in no genre and actually this is a state I am trying to get back into now.*laugh*
Then in the early 90ies I became a huge fan of HipHop and started producing beats with some more advanced gear. While the main production technique for HipHop was to  layer old funk loops at that time, my style was to use single hits of instruments to make my very own melodies and beats. In 1993 my first release came out on the “Alte Schule” sampler, which was a very well renowned sampler of German “real” HipHop acts – no pop stuff. After that I did lots of beats for rap acts until I became a bit bored of HipHop. I still liked it but I wanted to experiment around a bit more with sounds.
I always secretly loved the more electronically created oldschool Electro-HipHop stuff like Africa Bambaata’s “Planet Rock”, Twilight 22 or Newcleus. I mean, Kraftwerk was OK but these guys simply had the funk!
So, then I started doing more electronic music. I never got into Techno or Minimal as it sounded way too cold for me. But genres like Tropical and the likes really brought the fun back!
In the last years I participated in lots of Remix competitions. It is clear that most competitions are mainly done to promote a new album or so, but if you do a remix for a well known artist you really can get your stuff heard. So those competitions are a good thing. I made second place in the Jahcoozi “Barefoot Dub” Remix competition and this was a very good boost to get my name known.

2. What I’m doing now
I just finished a remix for a tune featuring Lady Chann – but I can’t tell you more about it now. It is a collaboration that purely emerged via the web.
At the moment I am working on a remix for the MC Zulu “No lies” remix competition. While I am a sucker for those classic reggae skanking off beat chords, I think I should avoid them as they very easily get cheesy. But – damn – they somehow again sneaked back into the MC Zulu remix track. Let’s see if they make it into the final version. I very often throw away a track completely and just keep the sounds that I have programmed. Then I start all beats, basslines and melodies from scratch and this very often leads to fresh stuff.

3. What I want to do in the future
To put it short: Having fun! You will wonder what I want to say with this, so let me explain:
If you read blogs or books about how to run your life they will always tell you that you need to set goals. I do not know whether you really need to set goals but anyway I asked myself, what my overall goal is as a producer. The answer came quick and is simple: My goal is to still have lots of fun producing music in the future. I still want to do this in 10 or 20 years because I simply love to do it. It is my passion.
While producing beats, itself already is a lot of fun it is mainly the positive feedback and competition that motivates me. So, if you stumble over a track of me on soundcloud or where ever, download it, drop a comment, put it in your mix tape or blog. This is what keeps me going.
Apart from that I will continue to drop free remixes and lots of more solo tracks in the future. Stay tuned!
